Being a company that deals with risk management, Stewart Title was proud to sponsor Adelaide’s ‘Risk Management’ Event held in March. James Cudmore and Tony Hurren from Cosoff Cudmore Knox Lawyers were the two main presenters on the night. They discussed recent case law and what was considered good risk management. Their presentation was followed by Despina Veselinovski from Stewart Title who gave a claims perspective on title insurance as a risk management tool in conveyancing.
‘Private Mortgages – Do’s and Don’ts’, Adelaide Pavilion, SA – 8 June 2010
Stewart Title was in Adelaide again this month to sponsor the ‘Private Mortgages – Do’s and Don’ts’ Event. The evening started with Despina giving a 10 minute presentation on ‘Illegal Structures – What’s the worst that could happen?’ which was based on one of our current claims. The claim involves an old church which has been illegally converted into a stunning house. Despina also showed photos of the renovated house which further illustrated the point that it is often difficult to detect illegal/unapproved building works. Despina’s presentation was followed by a presentation by Charlie Belperlo who spoke about Private Mortgages, and the evening continued with drinks and nibbles for all attendees.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
South West Road Trip – 15 to 19 March 2010
In March this year representatives from Landgate, the AICWA and Stewart Title ventured out to regional Western Australia to complete our annual “Road Trip” carried out over 3,000km of beautiful southern WA.
As the Education Sponsors of the AICWA, Stewart Title appreciates that it is difficult for some members to attend education seminars and functions in Perth so we enjoy being able to bring the seminars to them. Brooke Paull, the WA Business Development Manager, updated the members on the progress of title insurance claims in WA and also introduced the new Strata Policy with the new premium structures. Graham Glasson, Vice President of the AICWA challenged the audience with Crown Land Titles and Dion Dosualdo from Landgate gave an update on the fantastic products and services that are now available through Landgate. We would like to once again thank all of the members that attended and trust that they found the seminars interesting and resourceful.
AIC WA State Conference – 14 to 16 May 2010
Stewart Title recently had the privilege of being part of the AICWA State Conference, held at the Hyatt Regency Perth. Steve Lessack, Chief Executive Officer of Stewart Title Limited and Arynn Regan, Executive Assistant, made the long trip over from the UK for the three day conference themed Australiana. Steve and Arynn were quick to pick up the “Aussie lingo” at the Friday night cocktail party sponsored by JLT and Vero Insurance.
Paul Watkins, Legal Counsel from Stewart Title presented on ‘Title Insurance for Strata Units’ and gave an update on various title insurance claims from WA and other states in Australia. Both presentations were very well received and as always, the feedback has been fantastic.
On Saturday night the red carpet was rolled out for the AICWA Gala Awards dinner, the pinnacle of the social calendar for the Conveyancing Community in Western Australia. Brooke Paull, Stewart Title’s Business Development Manager from WA, was honoured to present the 2010 Stewart Title Betty Quelch award to a very deserving Northcourt Settlements. Once again we would like to congratulate Gayl, Helen and the team at Northcourt Settlements. It is the highest honour to be recognised by your peers as the top settlement agency and in saying that we would also like to congratulate all of the other nominees.
Stewart Title would like to congratulate all the award winners and the nominees for the Institutes awards for 2010. The standard of professionalism in the WA Conveyancing industry is at such a high level that to be nominated for these awards is an honour in itself.
Once again we were proud to be part of such a well organised and prestigious event and would like to thank the WA Conveyancing Community for their ongoing support over the past three and a half years.
AICWA Charity Fundraising event – 2 June 2010
The AICWA Charity Committee recently held their first fundraising event, an advanced screening of Sex and the City 2. The charity was established to raise money for current and former members in need and to support local charities which contribute to the WA Conveyancing community. Brooke Paull, the WA Business Development Manager was eager to support such a worthy cause. Astrid and Brooke soon realised that making 250 cupcakes and lolly bags is not as easy as they initially thought. However we couldn’t have imagined a better result with over $5,500 being raised for the charity and the transformation of fellow committee members, Dominic and John into Sex and the City fans. The next fundraising event promises to be bigger and better so get on board and support the industry that supports you.
